It’s All Relative (Including Your Relatives)

It’s been raining here in the Willamette Valley. Raining hard. People often complain about it. I’m often one of those people.

Until I remember my childhood in South Dakota, when there were summers of drought, and farmers didn’t know if crops would survive so they’d have grain to sell come harvest. The smell of rain-drenched earth after a parched summer, running through mud-puddles, and basking in the glow of rainbows dipped into twilight is as entrenched in my memory as the feel of a horse under my body.

Everything is relative, including our relatives. Have you ever talked about a gathering with family members or friends, weeks, months or years after the event, and learned everyone at the party had a completely different take on the same conversation or happening?

I’ve made a commitment for the year of 2018 – to start becoming the best vocalist, the best singer, I can be. And therefore, be able to give even more to my vocal students.

Can you imagine what would happen if I compared myself to Barbra Streisand or Lady Gaga?

I can. I would immediately shut down.

Everything is relative. My personal vocal practice is my own personal best…it has nothing to do with other professional singers or other professional voice teachers.

Where do you want to proclaim your personal best in 2018, knowing it’s not a competition – only a deep desire in your heart?

Here’s a sample of my work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8alNyT2Siw. If you like it, please like it on YouTube! Grab your stage and OWN it – speak like you want to be heard! Bring me on board for your next keynote or workshop.
